Visas & Entry Requirements
The e-VOA, the free arrival card, and the .go.id sites that keep you out of scam territory
Nearly every Bali trip now runs through three official Indonesian government websites, and you should handle all three before you fly: your visa at evisa.imigrasi.go.id, the free All Indonesia arrival card at allindonesia.imigrasi.go.id, and the Bali tourism levy at lovebali.baliprov.go.id. One rule protects you from an entire industry of fakes: official sites end in .go.id.
As of mid-2026, only 15 countries enter Indonesia visa-free — the 10 ASEAN states plus Colombia, Suriname, Hong Kong SAR, Türkiye, and Brazil — for 30 days, strictly non-extendable. Ignore any article claiming 160+ countries enter free; that ended in 2024. Everyone else (Australia, the US, UK, Canada, the EU, and roughly 90+ other nationalities — check the live list on the portal) uses the Visa on Arrival: IDR 500,000 (about USD 28), 30-day stay, single entry. Buy it online as an e-VOA at evisa.imigrasi.go.id no earlier than 14 days and at least 48 hours before departure; one application covers up to 5 people. Use a desktop browser and turn off any VPN or ad-blocker — the site throws a 403 error with them running.
The e-VOA can be extended exactly once, for another 30 days at IDR 500,000 (60 days total). Since late May 2025 every extension requires an in-person visit to an immigration office (in Bali: Denpasar, Jimbaran near the airport, or Singaraja) for fingerprints, a photo, and a short interview — apply online first at evisa.imigrasi.go.id, then attend. Start about 14 days before your visa expires, and dress modestly: no flip-flops, knees and shoulders covered. If there's any chance you'll stay past 30 days, enter on the e-VOA even if your passport qualifies for visa-free entry — visa-free can never be extended.
The All Indonesia arrival card is mandatory for every arrival (all ages) and completely free — any site charging for it is a scam. Fill it at allindonesia.imigrasi.go.id (or the official app) in the 72 hours before you arrive — the portal rejects earlier submissions. It merged the old customs e-CD and health forms into one form that spits out a single QR code scanned at the airport.
Paperwork basics the airline checks before Indonesia does: - Passport valid 6+ months from your arrival date, with at least one blank page (two to be safe). - Proof of onward or return travel dated within your permitted stay — it's a legal condition of entry, and budget carriers like AirAsia, Jetstar, and Lion Air will refuse boarding without it. - Screenshots of all your QR codes (e-VOA, arrival card, levy voucher) saved offline — airport Wi-Fi queues are where people get stuck.
At Bali's airport, an e-passport plus a pre-bought e-VOA gets you into the 90 autogates — face scan, roughly 20-25 seconds, no stamp. Buying the VOA at the counter instead means queuing to pay first, then using staffed lanes. And don't overstay, even by a day: the fine is IDR 1,000,000 per day from day one, payable in cash, and past about 60 days it becomes deportation, detention, and an entry ban of up to 10 years.
One active scam deserves its own warning: since late 2025, phishers have emailed fake payment requests after genuine e-visa applications, quoting your real name and application number and demanding cryptocurrency. Immigration never asks for crypto or USD by email — pay only inside the .go.id portal. Bottom line: e-VOA up to two weeks out, arrival card in the 72 hours before you fly, levy paid, QR codes screenshotted, onward ticket in hand. Do that and Bali's border is a 25-second formality.
